A Groan of the Hungry
A Groan of the Hungry
This is a slightly sadder poem I wrote for an event. I hope you like it...
It was a narrow street,
Packed with people in the sweltering heat,
Each looked at me in a different way,
With hope, with envy, with more bitterness than I can say,
Their cheeks were hollow,
Their skin pale and sallow,
Their eyes were like a cornered deer's,
Darting around consumed with fear.
Their bodies were thin and brittle,
Both the adults and the little,
Their grimy hands clutched their empty tummy,
Those who never knew the sweetness of honey.
To them even a morsel of food,
Is a priceless gift worth all their gratitude.
